Air India’s Plan To Increase Connectivity To The US

These additional flights are part of Air India’s plan to increase connectivity to the US and the UK by operating 20 more flights to the two countries. These flights will be introduced in a phased manner from October 2022 to December 2022.

Under this, flights from India to USA will increase from 34 flights to 40 flights per week. With the nonstop flights from SFO to BOM, the airline will, for the first time ever, offer premium economy class seats on its ultra-long-haul flights to the US. 

CEO & MD of Air India, Campbell Wilson said – “The sizeable frequency increase to the US and the UK, as well as the addition of new city pairs and improved aircraft cabin interiors, comes just 10 months after Air India’s acquisition by the Tata Group. It is a clear signal of our intent, and an early step towards a much bigger aspiration”.

Air India’s Fleet Expansion Plan

The airline recently signed leases and letters of intent for around 30 aircraft, including 5 wide-bodied Boeing aircraft, to augment its fleet size by 25%. The five Boeing 777-200LRs are set to join the airline fleet progressively from December 2022.

The wide-bodied Boeing aircraft will be used for New York to Mumbai flights, San Franscisco to Mumbai flights, and San Francisco to Bengaluru flights.
