Delhi Airport’s Terminal 2 (T2) Will Be Shut Starting May 18

Starting 17 May 2021 midnight, the T2 terminal of Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) will temporarily remain shut. This is because the passenger traffic after the second wave of COVID-19 has reduced significantly. 

Considering the reduction in the number of flights operating at T2, all flights from 18 May will now only be handled at the T3 Terminal of the Delhi Airport. 

Note- After the flight operation at the Terminal 2 was suspended on 23 March 2020 owing to the pandemic, it was resumed on 1 Oct 2020. Now, it has been temporarily suspended again. 

India’s Aviation Sector – Statistics

Flight Statistics – According to the reports, Delhi Airport is handling only 50 flights on a daily basis. This is down from 1500 flights that it used to cater to before the pandemic. 

Passenger Statistics – The daily traffic at the Delhi Airport has fallen to a mere few thousand passengers. 

What About The Airlines Operating At Delhi’s T2 

Airlines that used to operate their flights from Terminal 2 of Delhi Airport have started issuing advisories, notifying their passengers of this latest update.

“Delhi terminal update: Effective 18th May 2021, all flights will arrive and depart from Terminal 3.” IndiGo tweeted.

Currently,  IndiGo is operating all its flights with call signs between 6E2000 and 6E2999 from the T2 terminal.

Apart from IndiGo, GoAir operated all domestic flights to and from Delhi from Terminal 2 only.
