New Rules For Aadhar Card For NRI – Aadhar Card for OCI Holders

Recently, India has simplified its rules and introduced specific forms for OCI Card and Aadhar Card for NRI, making it easy for them to obtain one if they fulfil certain criteria.
The modifications have been made through a circular that was made public by the Unique Identification Authority Of India (UIDAI), making it convenient to get an Aadhar card for NRI with OCI.
To apply for an Aadhar card Indian, non-resident Indians and Indian citizens living abroad must fill out specific papers.
In order to avoid confusion with resident Indians, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) developed distinct forms for non-resident Indians under the Aadhaar (Enrolment and Update) Amendment Regulations, 2024.
Can NRI Get Aadhar Card Mandatory?
As far as Aadhar for NRI is concerned, getting one is not mandatory but completely depends upon the choice of the individual. However, an Aadhar card in India is mandatory in case you want to make any financial transactions within the country.
How To Get Aadhar Card For NRI?
- NRIs can apply for an Indian aadhaar card for themselves or for their minor children once they return to India.
- Registration and biometric verification are done at Aadhaar Seva Kendra (service centre) for Aadhar for NRI.
- If you are applying for Aadhaar Kendra in USA or any other foreign land, a valid Indian passport is the only acceptable form of identification.
- Applicants born on or after October 1, 2023, need to provide a birth certificate as per the Aadhar Card India rules.
- The information of all the NRI and Aadhar Card holders must be updated every ten years. Updates, including address changes, can be done online or offline.
How To Obtain Aadhar Card For NRI? | Forms For NRI Aadhaar Card
There are different forms to extend an Aadhar card application for NRI. The UIDAI has come up with 9 different forms for residents and enrollment for Aadhaar for OCI.
Forms 1 and 3
Forms 1 and 3 are meant for applicants with valid evidence of address in India, whether they are residents or not. Form 1 is the Aadhar enrollment/update form for individuals over the age of 18, and Form 3 is for children between the ages of 5 and 18.
Forms 2 and 4
To apply for Aadhar card from USA or NRI Aadhar enrollments or updates with an address proof outside of India, Forms 2 and 4 have been introduced separately. Form 4 is for NRI children between the ages of 5 and 18, and Form 2 is for Aadhar for NRI adults.
Forms 5 and 6
To enrol children under the age of 5, the aadhaar card requirements include Form 5 (if the address is in India) and 6 (if it is outside of India).
Further, an Indian passport is a mandatory POI for Aadhar card NRI applicants. However, they can also choose to provide any other valid proof of address after carefully studying the details on the screen before the final submission.
Can OCI Get Aadhar Card?
Earlier, there was no requirement for an aadhaar card for OCI. However, after the government announced that an Aadhar Card does not clarify one’s citizenship, aadhar card for OCI is now required.
Conditions To Apply For An Aadhar Card For OCI Holders
To apply for an OCI Aadhar card, you need a minimum of 182 days stay in India in a calendar year. Further, UIDAI requires your email address to keep you updated regarding your OCI Aadhar card since it does not support any SMS notifications on non-Indian phone numbers.
