In response to the growing demand for air travel, international airlines are actively expanding their services as part of the aviation industry’s recovery from the pandemic. Notable players such as Air India, Etihad, United Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and Lufthansa are making strategic moves to establish fresh routes between the USA and India. This expansion is not only a response to the surge in demand but also stems from the increased frequency of their existing services on established routes. 

Passengers can anticipate the introduction of new non-stop and connecting flights from USA to India. Let’s know about the same in detail below – 

Etihad Airways Expands Routes In The USA & India

To compete with other major airlines, Etihad Airways is enlarging its network in both USA and India. Recently, the airline announced Boston as its fourth destination in the USA. It is now gearing up to introduce flights to two new destinations in Kerala as part of its winter schedule. Starting from January 2024, Etihad will operate flights from USA to Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode via Abu Dhabi.

After Qatar Airways, Etihad will become the second airline to operate at Calicut International Airport, Kozhikode. This move positions Etihad Airways in competition with Emirates and Qatar Airways, offering budget-friendly flight options for economy travelers headed to Thiruvananthapuram from USA via AUH.

Etihad Airways flights from Boston to India will commence on March 31, 2024.

Turkish Airlines New Routes Connecting USA & India

The inaugural flights from Detroit to India by Turkish Airlines are scheduled to commence on November 15, 2023, initially operating thrice a week and increasing to four times a week in 2024. Interestingly, Turkish Airlines became the first Middle East carrier to serve Detroit in the Midwest.

In addition to offering affordable Turkish Airlines tickets for flights to India from the USA, this new service presents several advantages compared to routes provided by Lufthansa, British Airways, American Airlines, and Air France connecting Detroit to India. 

Air France Routes To USA

Exciting news for residents in North Carolina – Starting from October 30, 2023, Air France introduced a new route from Raleigh and extended the connection to India via Paris. Currently, American Airlines and United Airlines (along with their interline partner, Air India) dominate flights from Raleigh to India, allowing international travelers to check in one bag for free. Air France’s thrice-weekly service from Raleigh-Durham International Airport provides a viable alternative for those seeking a one-stop option over two-stop itineraries originating in Charlotte.

Insight – The growing Indian-origin community in Research Triangle Park, NC is particularly interested in nonstop connectivity from Raleigh to India.

Air France Future Plans – Additionally, Minneapolis is set to become another destination in Air France’s expanding U.S. network. Flights from Minneapolis are expected to commence in May 2024, with the exact launch date yet to be announced. Furthermore, the airline plans to increase its thrice-weekly service to and from Dallas-Fort Worth Airport to five times a week.

Air India New USA-India Routes

Air India is reportedly set to broaden its nonstop USA-India flight offerings by adding services to Boston and Los Angeles, where significant Indian communities reside. Boston Logan Airport, the largest and busiest airport in New England, serves as a gateway to the six-state region. Beyond catering to holiday and business travelers, a substantial number of Indian students are expected to benefit from the introduction of direct flights from Boston to India.

Meanwhile, Los Angeles is poised to become the origin of another new service connecting the USA and India for Air India. The Indian community in Southern California has eagerly awaited nonstop connectivity from Los Angeles to India for several years. These anticipated routes are likely to be launched in November or December 2023. Additionally, there are indications that Dallas and Atlanta may join Air India’s U.S. network in 2024.

Kuwait Airways New Routes From USA To India

Kuwait Airways commenced flights from USA to India, with the inaugural service that took off from Washington Dulles (IAD) on December 15, 2023. Following New York JFK, Washington Dulles became the airline’s second gateway in the United States. The airline plans to operate this new service from Washington DC three times a week, seamlessly connecting it to Delhi and Mumbai through its hub in Kuwait City. Similar to other Middle Eastern carriers, Kuwait Airways allows two bags to be checked in per international traveler (on adult fare) for free.

United Airlines To Restore Suspended Routes To India

To compete in the nonstop travel market between USA and India, United Airlines is reinstating its nonstop services on routes to India that were previously suspended due to restricted access to Russian airspace. The nonstop flights from Chicago to Delhi are set to resume on March 20, 2024, while the specific dates for the resumption of United flights from Newark to Mumbai and flights from San Francisco to Delhi are yet to be announced.

To meet the growing demand for direct travel between the northeast USA and India, United Airlines is increasing the frequency of its nonstop flights from Newark to New Delhi. Starting from October 29, United Airlines will operate double daily flights between Newark EWR and Delhi IGI Airport.

Lufthansa’s USA-India New Routes

Raleigh, Minneapolis, and Seattle are the latest destinations added to Lufthansa‘s network in the United States. The German flagship carrier’s daily service to and from Seattle is scheduled to commence on May 30, 2024, with further connections to India via Munich or Frankfurt. Following Air France, Lufthansa becomes the second European airline to initiate services at Raleigh-Durham International Airport starting from June 6, 2024. Residents of North Carolina will have access to five weekly Lufthansa flights from Raleigh to Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, as well as Delhi and Mumbai.

Lufthansa is expanding its presence in India, introducing Hyderabad as its newest and fifth destination for flights from the USA via Frankfurt. Beginning January 16, 2024, Lufthansa will operate flights to HYD RGI Airport on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. This service will facilitate one-stop travel to Hyderabad for residents of Charlotte, Detroit, Denver, and Orlando, as Lufthansa is one of the few non-American airlines operating from these U.S. cities. This marks Lufthansa’s return to the City of Pearls after the suspension of services in 2011.

Minneapolis will witness the commencement of Lufthansa’s five weekly services on June 4, 2024. Residents of Minnesota will have the option of one-stop flights to India from Minneapolis, not only through Air France but also through Lufthansa in the latter half of 2024. Notably, Lufthansa’s new travel cabins featuring Premium Economy seats are set to debut around the same time in 2024.
