Air France Cabin Baggage Rules for Liquid Goods

Air France Baggage Policy for Special Items

Infant on the Lap Policy

If a passenger is traveling with an infant on their lap, they are allowed to bring one additional carry-on item as well. The carry-on item must be lesser than 12 kg (26.4 pounds in weight) and the dimensions must not exceed 21.6 x 9.8 x 13.7 inches (55 x 25 x 35 cm). 

Passengers with infants are not charged extra if they carry a foldable stroller or child restraint seat with them into the cabin. However, foldable strollers are only accepted if there is an availability of space in the aircraft. The folding stroller must not exceed 5.9 x 11.8 x 39.4 inches.

Sporting Equipment Policy

Air France’s sports baggage policy permits the carriage of the majority of sports equipment as part of your standard baggage allowance. The overweight Air France baggage fee costs will apply if you exceed the allowance in terms of weight, size, or piece of baggage.

  • The following sports equipment is included in your luggage allowance, provided that it does not exceed 50 lbs (23 kg) in weight or 300 cm (118 in length) in lengths such as golf equipment, skiing equipment, and diving equipment.
  • Cycling and scuba tanks are subject to a cost of €40–125 (USD 49–152) depending on your itinerary.
  • If they weigh less than 50 lb (23 kg) and measure less than 300 cm (118) in length, the following equipment will be included in your Air France baggage allowance: surfboards, longboards, windsurf boards, etc.

The exceptions are here as follows:

  • Boards less than 107 cm (42 in) in length and 50 pounds (23 kg) in weight are considered standard baggage on flights from or to the United States.
  • Boards that are smaller than 107 cm (300 cm) in length may incur an extra cost ranging from €40–125 (USD 49–152) depending on the flight route.
  • Approval for certain sporting equipment must be obtained at least 48 hours prior to departures such as bicycles, diving flashlights, surfboards, longboards, windsurf boards, etc.

Golf Equipment

  • Include one piece of baggage containing clubs and shoes. Can be either checked as standard baggage or in the cargo. 
  • The maximum weight accepted is 50 lbs (23 kg).
  • It is not permitted for passengers flying on Light Fare tickets, however, passengers who are Flying Blue members are allowed to carry it for free, regardless of their number of checked baggage.

Diving Equipment

  • Passengers are allowed to carry only one item of each, i.e, wet suit, mask, vest, knife, pair of shoes, and pressure regulator. 
  • It can be checked in the hold of the aircraft or as cargo. It is not permitted on Light Fare tickets. 
  • All equipment must be properly packed.


  • Not included in the standard Air France baggage allowance.
  • Passengers wanting to carry bicycles need to request airlines 48 hours before the departure. 
  • Electric bicycles are allowed to be carried if lithium batteries are removed. 
  • Bicycles (including electric bicycles) must be packed in a hard case. The tires need to be deflated and the pedals should be removed. 

Ski Equipment

  • This category also includes snowboards. 
  • Passengers are allowed to carry one snowboard and one pair of boots. The skis and boots must be packed separately. 
  • If the passenger is carrying a ski helmet into the cabin, then it would be considered as a part of carry-on baggage.

Musical Instrument Policy

Air France’s musical instrument policy permits passengers to transport instruments in any of the following methods (except on Light Fare tickets)

As Air France Carry- On Baggage

  • Passengers are allowed to bring small musical instruments such as flute, violin, or clarinet in the cabin. 
  • This is only acceptable if the instrument fits in the overhead space or underneath the seat in front of you.
  • The maximum combined weight must not exceed 15 lbs (7 kg) and the maximum combined dimensions must not be more than 115 cm (45 in). 

As Air France Checked Baggage

  • You may check musical instruments that exceed your cabin baggage allowance as checked baggage. It must be securely packed in a hard case. 
  • Musical instruments checked in will be subject to the same weight and dimensions as other checked baggage. 
  • If the number, weight, or size of your musical instrument exceeds your baggage allowance, you can purchase a baggage option. One can purchase either online through My Bookings, or at the time of online check-in.
  • You can also pay excess baggage charges at the airport as well. If your musical instrument exceeds the weight and size restrictions such as while carrying a bass or cello, then you must request Air France customer service at least 48 hours before the flight departure. 

As Air France Seat Baggage

Passengers are allowed to purchase an additional seat as well for their fragile musical instruments such as guitars. The maximum dimensions must not exceed 115 cm (45 in) or excess weight charges are 99 lbs (45 kg). 

Excess Air France Baggage Fee

According to Air France baggage fees, if any of the products listed in your baggage limit exceeds the weight allowance for your travel class, you must pay an additional cost (23 kg each in Economy and Premium Economy cabins). Air France will consider an item to be overweight if it exceeds the limit weight of 23 kg, regardless of your travel class.

Additionally, if the dimensions (height + length + breadth) of one baggage item exceed 158 cm (62 in), regardless of whether it is included in the free baggage allowance, additional oversize charges must be paid.

Any item weighing more than 32 kg (70 lbs) or measuring more than 300 cm (118 in) in length (excluding pole vaulting poles, audio or video equipment, and large musical instruments) will not be allowed for hold transit.

Air France Lost and Damaged Baggage Policy

If your luggage is not delivered upon arrival, you must notify Air France Baggage Service prior to departing the airport. You must complete a Property Irregularity Report (PIR), and you will be assigned a file number to track your request. Additionally, according to Air France’s baggage policy for delayed baggage, you can declare delayed baggage online within 48 hours of your arrival at some airport in your destination country, if your final flight arrives within 48 hours of your arrival.

If you make necessary purchases, you have 21 days from the day your luggage is returned to submit a reimbursement request online or via the Air France Baggage Service. If your baggage is not located despite all efforts, Air France may compensate you up to 1,288 SDR (about € 1,607) if you complete the online claim form.

If your baggage is damaged or things are missing, you have seven days from the date of receipt to submit a compensation request using the online claim form or by mail to the customer service office in your country of residence. If you remain at the airport, you should proceed to the Air France Baggage Service to establish a Property Irregularity Report (PIR). You will be assigned a file number to track your request.
