Lufthansa Baggage Policy For Checked Baggage

  • Business Class travelers can check 2 items of baggage up to 32 kg. 
  • First Class travelers are allowed to check 3 baggage items up to 32 kg with the addition of sports baggage and golf equipment bags. 

Lufthansa Airlines Overweight & Oversize Baggage Policy

Following are the possibilities of how a passenger is asked to pay an additional cost according to Lufthansa baggage fee policy:

If the checked baggage is heavier than the free Lufthansa baggage allowance, then the passenger must pay a certain fine:

  • 50 € or USD 70 within Europe or between third countries

Lufthansa Carry On Baggage Allowance

The carry-on luggage or the cabin baggage is what a passenger is permitted to bring onto the plane rather than transfer to the cargo hold. Lufthansa Airlines has stringent restrictions on carry-on baggage. The dimensions and weight of your carry-on bags shall not exceed 55 x 40 x 23 cm and 8 kg, respectively.

According to Lufthansa’s Cabin Baggage Policy, 

  • Economy Class passengers can bring one piece of carry-on baggage. 
  • Economy Flex passengers can take one piece of carry-on baggage.
  • Business Class and First Class passengers can carry two baggage of the same size.

  • Jackets, small cameras, and reading materials with them. These items do not count as an item of baggage.

Passengers on Lufthansa may pay an excess Lufthansa baggage allowance fee to have their items checked if they need to carry additional baggage, such as items that exceed the size and weight regulations. 

Lufthansa Airlines’ Sporting Equipment Policy

Passengers flying on Lufthansa Airlines must remember to register sports baggage 24 hours before the flight departures. To avoid Lufthansa extra baggage fee, your sports baggage weight must not exceed more than 32 kg. 

a) North Africa, Central Asia, and countries of the eastern Mediterranean coast: € 100

b) Short intercontinental routes: € 150

c) Medium intercontinental routes: € 200

d) Long intercontinental routes: € 250

Lufthansa Airlines Musical Instruments Policy

According to the Lufthansa luggage policy, musical instruments that weigh more than 32 kg can only be taken after letting the airline know ahead of time about the specific luggage. 

a) Between Europe and third world countries: The maximum weight approved is 32 kg and the maximum dimensions are 292 cm for which the passenger will be charged 300 USD. 

b) Passengers traveling intercontinental: The maximum weight approved is 32 kg and the maximum dimensions are 292 cm for which the passenger will be charged 400 USD. 

Lufthansa Airlines Pet Policy

Depending on the weight and size of the pet and the pet carrier, Lufthansa decides whether the animal can travel with you in the cabin or the hold of the aircraft.

  • If the pet has enough space in the container throughout the flight.

  • If the infant (under the age of 2) is traveling on your lap, Lufthansa does not ask for any fare. 
  • If the infant (under the age of 2) is traveling on a separate seat, Lufthansa asks passengers to pay 10% of the flight ticket purchased by the adult.
